Origins

Maybo was founded by Bill Fox in 1996. Since then Bill has recruited a team of around 30 people who have built on his initial ideas. The name 'Maybo' was taken from the boat, Maybo Eagle, that Bill lived in on the Thames during the early years.

 Accreditation and qualifications

• BILD: Maybo's programmes for staff working with children and adults with learning disabilities are accredited by the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD) in the teaching of physical intervention skills.
• City & Guilds: For all programmes based on its core conflict management content Maybo is able to offer certification accredited by City & Guilds.
• Skills for Security: All Maybo's trainer training for the SIA licensable sectors are certified by Skills for Security
• BIIAB: For programmes for the SIA licensable security sector Maybo can offer certification accredited by BII (British Institute of Innkeeping).

• First conflict management qualifications developed with City & Guilds
• Active role in the formulation of the National Occupational Standards
• The adviser to the Security Industry Authority on training requirements for licences, including physical intervention training
• Actively consulted by the Health and Safety Executive on national projects
• Designing development programmes for the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
• Project partners with UNISON on a major healthcare training needs analysis
• Giving advice to many police forces including working closely on conflict avoidance strategies with the British Transport Police
• Chosen partner of the British Retail Consortium for their national training initiative
• Developing national qualifications with the British Institute of Innkeeping for the licensed retail sector
• Partnership with leading publishers to produce key text in books, sector publications and periodicals
